What is a Biocomposite?

Biocomposite (Latin for 'grown by sun') is a composite material formed by a matrix (a resin) surrounding reinforcement natural fibers

The matrix is formed by polymers derived from both renewable and nonrenewable resources.
The matrix serves to hold and encompass the fibers together and protect the fibers from mechanical damage and environmental degradation. By binding the fibers together with matrix the loads are cohesively transferred.

Biofibers are the principal components of biocomposites Biofibers are derived from natural origins like cotton, flax, hemp wood, (cellulose) as well as silk. The interest in biocomposites is seeing exponential growth  The applications for biocomposites include industrial applications, automotive, aerospace, construction, furniture, sporting goods and my favorite acoustical instruments
